studied oboe with Leon Goosens and Celia Nicklin as a scholarship holder at Cambridge University and completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees with distinction. A further scholarship enabled her to study at the Royal Academy of Music. There she won the Leila Bull Oboe Prize and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. She then continued her musical training with Prof. Ingo Goritzki at the "Hochschule für Musik und Theater" in Hanover.
Rachel Frost has been invited to play as principal oboist and principal cor anglais with the most renowned orchestras and has played under the world's best conductors. Since 1992 she has been a member of the "Chamber Orchestra of Europe", an outstanding chamber music ensemble initiated by Claudio Abbado. She has played under the conductors Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Bernhard Haitink, Claudio Abbado, Yannick Nezet-Seguin and has worked with the soloists Andras Schiff, Martha Argerich, Lisa Batiashvili and others.
As a member of the "Wind Soloists of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe" she has produced numerous CDs. Together with Heinz Holliger, she has recorded the complete wind chamber music of Richard Strauss. Together with Douglas Boyd, she has recorded the complete trio sonatas by Jan Dismas Zelenka.
In 2012, she founded Trio Roseau, realizing her dream of performing small treasures of wind chamber music together with her husband, clarinettist Ulf-Guido Schäfer, and bassoonist Malte Refardt.
Since 2018, the ensemble has recorded 3 CDs with works by W.A. Mozart on the renowned MDG label (Musikproduktionen Dabringhaus und Grimm). The complete recording of the Mozart Divertimenti KV 439 is supplemented with harmony music for the operas La Clemenza di Tito, Cosi fan tutte and Don Giovanni. On the latest CD (Mozart Vol. 3), Rachel also plays Mozart arias arranged by Ulf-Guido Schäfer for oboe or cor anglais and string trio.
In spring 2023, Rachel recorded the work "Reminiszenzen" for cor anglais and string trio by Ulf-Guido Schäfer as part of a scholarship from "Neustart Kultur".
Rachel teaches cor anglais in Prof. Kai Frömbgen's oboe class at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Together with the Trio Roseau, she teaches chamber music in master classes at the "Villa Musica".

The extensive repertoire of our Trio Roseau reflects the beauty, virtuosity and versatility of the three reed instruments: oboe, clarinet and bassoon. The wonderful arrangements and compositions by my husband Ulf-Guido Schäfer make it particularly varied. I have played in the Chamber Orchestra of Europe for over 30 years and it is a privilege for me to work with the world's best conductors and soloists. It was in the orchestra that I discovered my love for the cor anglais with its soulful sound and beautiful solos.

It was the desire to make music together spontaneously that led the three multiple prizewinners Rachel Frost, Ulf-Guido Schäfer and Malte Refardt to found the "Trio Roseau". After their debut at the Ma'alot Quintet chamber music festival in 2012, numerous invitations to concerts and festivals followed. The five Divertimenti KV439 in B flat major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the harmony music written for the ensemble by Ulf-Guido Schäfer for Mozart's operas "Cosi fan tutte", "La clemenza di Tito" and "Don Giovanni" form the core of their concert programs. The trio has a close friendship with pianist Markus Becker. Together, the ensemble performs colorful programs in duo, trio and quartet formations. The ensemble has been working with the renowned MDG label (Musikproduktionen Dabringhaus und Grimm) since 2018. At the beginning of 2019, the first CD was released as part of a complete recording of the Divertimenti KV 439 by W.A. Mozart together with the first recording of the harmony music for Mozart's opera "La clemenza di Tito". Vol. 2 of the Divertimenti followed in 2020 together with the harmony music to Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte". The third CD in this Mozart series with the harmony music for "Don Giovanni" was released in 2022 and is supplemented with concert arias for oboe and cor anglais and string trio.

Lucerne Festival 2018 under the direction of Bernard Haitink
The Chamber Orchestra of Europe (COE) was founded in 1981 by a group of young musicians who met as part of the European Community Youth Orchestra (now EUYO). There are now around 60 members of the COE, who are pursuing parallel careers as solo or section leaders of national orchestras, as outstanding chamber musicians and as music lecturers.
The COE has close links with many of the major festivals and concert halls in Europe
The orchestra currently works closely with Sir András Schiff and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who are both honorary members (following in the footsteps of Bernard Haitink and Nikolaus Harnoncourt), as well as with Sir Antonio Pappano, Sir Simon Rattle and Robin Ticciati.
With more than 250 works in its discography, the COE's CDs have won numerous international awards, including two Grammys and three Gramophone Record of the Year Awards.
“Ein besonders delikates Hörschmankerl ….eine klanglich delikate und abwechslungsreiche Serenade von mozartischer Leichtigkeit und Raffinesse…. alles ist äußerst liebevoll und mit Geschmack musiziert. Die drei Konzertarien von Mozart mit Streichertriobegleitung wirken durch die instrumentale Reduzierung noch kostbarer und intimer“ (klassik heute)
„Virtuosic in the fast parts, generously cantabile in the wide vocal arches: Rachel Frost on oboe and English horn does not miss Mozart’s singer friends at any moment.“ (Vinyl)
“The members of the Trio Roseau are excellent Mozartians, sprightly and sensitive. They seem to breathe together, shading their dynamics expertly. They are recorded in a believable space: I feel as if I were in an excellent seat in a real small concert hall.“ (Michael Ullman, Fanfare magazine)
“… eine Offenbarung, nicht nur für Spezialisten der Bläserkammermusik.“ (Gramola) CD Trio Roseau Mozart Vol.2
… wird ebenso lebendig wie feinfühlig gespielt.“ (Pizzicato)
“It is extraordinary to think that you are listening to only three instruments at one time; so good are Ulf-Guido Schäfer’s arrangements, that it sounds like a much bigger ensemble. This is aided by the expert playing of the three musicians who blend their sounds to produce the unexpected.“ (Stuart Sillitoe, musicweb.com) CD Trio Roseau Mozart Vol.1
